Wargame red dragon naval units series# The aforementioned Patriot is presented as only the launcher and would still need radar and command vehicles to function. All units are represented as a single infantry squad or vehicle and can operate by themselves.Only the US can use them, they take a metric week to reload, and they can one-shot more or less anything they hit. In this game, they're pared down to simply being an airplane sniping platform and precision cluster munition launcher, respectively. The Patriot missile and ATACMS, both expensive land-based artillery in real life, are theater-level weapons. It is still the longest-ranged anti-shipping missile in the game. In-game, it's reduced to just over 9.4 kilometers. The P-270 Moskit with the NATO Reporting Name SS-N-22 Sunburn, deployed onto the Udaloy, Sovremenny & Tarantul ships has a range of 120 kilometers in real life.Acceptable Breaks from Reality: Takes the same breaks from reality for ground and aerial weapons in the sequels, then takes them to a whole new level with naval combat:.My personal favorite being the Vietnam-era Monitor “Zippo”.īoats will be armed with a wide array of weaponry, ranging from mere MGs to anti-ship missiles, autocannon, howitzer, SAM …īut a major new game mechanics will be introduced by point-defense weapon systems, designed to engage and intercept enemy missiles before impact.'It all comes down to the infantryman and his tropes': Like ants among giants, they will, unlike the bigger boats, be able to leave the sea to penetrate inland through rivers, and thus act as support weapon platforms for the ground troops. Patrol boats (under 30m long) will be the smallest boats, with light weaponry. The South Korean Pohang corvette will be among the biggest of its kind, while the ubiquitous Soviet Osa (used by pretty much every communist state in the world) will be among the smallest. Usually faster than their bigger brethen, they will be the scouts and main frontline ships of the naval forces. Corvettes are smaller combat boats (30-90m), either designed for pure naval warfare (anti-ship missiles, …) or with some ground support weaponry (MLRS, mortar, …). The Japanese Kongo & Soviet Udaloy II destroyers, respectively 161m et 163m long, will be the Kings of the High Seas. Covered with weapons, the destroyers will be the mightiest ships to sail in Red Dragon. Destroyers & Frigates (over 80m long) will be the flagships by taking the role of naval command vehicles, hence being able to seize control of naval reinforcement zones. The introduction of naval and amphibian units is a particular highlight, and the maritime and river areas provide fresh strategic opportunities!
